The University of Scranton purchased the Assembly of God Church on December 15, 1983 and renovated the hall before its dedication as Rock Hall in October 1984. Its main feature is the 300-seat campus chapel named Madonna Della Strada, or "Our Lady of the Way," in reference to an image of the Virgin Mary enshrined in the Church of the Gesu in Rome. The chapel was consecrated on February 15, 1985, by Bishop James C. Timlin, D.D.
Rock Hall is also the home of the University's Military Science department and ROTC program.
