Rector Offers Plans For Structure
• The main feature of th~ ground
floor is a long-needed auditorium
and ballroom. At one end of the
room will be a completely equipped
stage whereon the University
Players will be able to stage
all their dramatic pro<luctions.
A graduate of the university
who is now a member of the faculty
at Seton Hall University recently
received honorary membership
from Phi Beta Sigma, distinguished
service fraternity at
Seton Hall. The university graduate
is Mr. Matthew Farrell who
holds a B.A. and an M.A, from
Scranton.
Mr. Farrell serves as instructor
in history at Seton Hall and is
moderator of the Brownson Society,
the student· debating group.

Off-stage there will be complete
dressing facilities and the auditorium
will be equipped with a
public address system. Contained
at the rear of the ground floor will
be a modern self-service book
store designed to eliminate much
of the time lost in purchasing
books and supplies.

and' ballroom, reading room, and student extracurricular
offices. Demolition has already' begun on the old residence
halls which occupy the space to be taken up by the
new building.

STUDENT UNION . Shown here is the architect's
sketch of the student union building to be erected at the
earner of Quincy and Linden across the street from the
new residence halls. The proposed structure will cost
approximately $900,0'00 and is expected to be completed
by Spring, 1960. The building -is scheduled to house a

The formal announcement concerning the erection of a
new Student Union building was recently made by the Very
Rev. John J. Long, SJ, president of the university. Fr. Long
disclosed that funds for the proposed stu9-ent center will be
realized from a loan approved by the Housing and Home
Financing Agency for the construction of the building.
The proposed cost of the building is $900,000. The structure
has been designed to be an effective compliment to both
the new student residence halls and Loyola Hall of Science
