G. Alden Bldg.
In Operation;
Opinions Vary
The University's Departments of
Business Administration and Economics
have taken up full reside~ce in
the recently innovated Glen 'Alden
Building, and the move seems to have
met with general, though not universal,
favor.
Dr. Joseph R. Zandarski, Associate
Professor of Business Administration
and Chairman of the two departments,
reported that the faculty is
satisfied with the building, and that
he, as department chairman, has no
major complaints.
Dr. Zandarski is particularly
pleased about the improved space in
faculty offices, of which there are
presently 14 in use.
Student reaction to the building
has been mixed. A number of business
students favor the idea of having
"their own building." Others,
however, complain about the build'
ing's condition. For instance, Junior
Ken Filippini criticizes it as being a
"run-down, unequipped, antiquated
building.
The most common complaint was
due to the relative isolation of the
building, located at the corner of
J efferson Avenue and Linden Street
which is two blocks from the cam:
pus proper. Some students feel that
the ten minute interval betwep.n
classes is insufficient time to get.
from the campus to the building,
Actually, there are only three
classrooms in use in the Glen Alden
Building, along with one seminar
room and one study room. Because
of this relative lack of facilities, a
number of business classes are still
being held.in St. Thomas' Hall. The
University is using only the top three
floors of the six-story building for
classrooms. Various professional offices
take up the first three floors.
Chester Vola, the Superintendent of
the Building, complimented the University
for the improvements in the
47 year old building. He cited a
new gas heating system which was
installed last year as an example.
New lighting was also added to the
building, as well as air conditioning
in all of the offices and the sixth
floor classrooms.
The presence of the University in
the Glen Alden Building replaces offices
of the Metropolitan Life Insurance
Company, Dun and Bradstreet,
and United States Fidelity and Guarantee.
