BBC Concert Scheduled 00
oThe Artist Series of Baptist Bible College, Clarks sunUnit, will
present an evening of classical music October 28 at 8:00 p.m. at
the Student Center Cafetorium.
Robert Hale and Dean Wilder, renowned opera singers and
former New York CitY opera members, will perform operatic
and contemporary sacred material.
Although they live in different areas of the country, both men
combine their talents to do a series of concerts each year.
Tickets cost $2.50 for adults and $1.50 for students.
Reservations can be made by calling the college at 587-1172.
Senate Meeting Held
The University of Scranton Senate°met Friday October 14,·in
the Dean's Confemce Room. The meeting was presided over by
Rev. Charles Thomas, J.J., chairman, and Dr. Frank Homer,
secretary.
Some-major points on the agenda included discussion on the
outdoor sports facility andoan academic integrity bill.
John S. Flanagan, vice president of business and
management, gave a brief report on the University's outdoor
sports facility. He countered campus rumors of high cost
overruns. An assessment of the present contract costs lies at
$303,475; a figure below the original low bid, of the construction
company.
Also on the agenda was discussion of an academic integrity bill
°introducedby Rev. William Hill, S.J., Academic Vice President.
The bill is being sent to the Ways and Means Committee for
study. Possible amendments to the bill could include failure for
the course if a student is found cheating as opposed to a zero for
the test.
Also discussed were requirements for professorships in
physical education and library science, and the introduction of a
B.S. program in nursing.
SACRepons
Student Affairs Council news at their last meeting, October 13:
The SAC reported the removal of an eight foot fence at Linden 0
St. and Quincy Ave. which had been obstructing passage.
A new speed1ine cook has been placed in the second floor
cafeteria to aid in the quicker service of food at noontime.
At the present time, washing machines are being installed in
off-campus apartments. Further washer installation plans for
Dennis Edward Hall are being discussed.
Freshman Class Bection ReSults
Ken Reimann and Patty Moran were elected president and
vice president respectively of the freshman class on October 13.
The winning duo received 133 votes, twice as many as the Tom
Giachetti - Joe Kucay and Mark Frost - Ellen Burgoyne tickets.
In all, 352 freshmen voted; a little less than 50 percent of the
class. • 0

Individuals Against the Crime of Silence, a group that was
active in helping to end the Vietnam war, has recently stepped
forward in an effort to battle the nuclear establishment. 0
The members of this group, which includes Joan Baez, Daniel
Ellsberg, Pete Seeger and Benjamen Spock, have stated that we
can no longer be silent about the imminent threat of nuclear
destruction of the human race, and are demanding that every
• government andthe UnitedNations outlaw the manufacture and
possession of all nucl~weapons..

Mr. Joseph Tiel11ey, director of financial
aid at the University has announced his
resignation, effective immediate-Iy. Tiemey,
who has served this position since 1964, is
said to be one of, if not the first, to hold
this position in Northeastern Pennsylv3l\ia.
°Thirteen years ago opponunities such as an
on and off campus work-study, federally
funded aid programs and state aid were
not as available to the aspiring studenL
Today, Tierney continues to marshall the
odds and ends of the work-study program
on campus as well as the financial aid to
students functions mentioned above.
Along with providing available funds to .
students, Tierney also hill! other tasks to
perfonn.
The director of financial aid is appointed - .
by the President for an indeimite tenure as
an academically supportive administrator
and is responsible to the Tr-;asurer. These
responsibilities range from evaluating and
processin~,all requests for financial aid to
attending n~tional and regional conferences
bearing on student aid.
All financial assistance pamphlets we !lee
here on campus must first pass through
Tiemey's bands for interpretation and approval
He also disseminates infonnation
on all studrnt aid p.rograms to parents and
students in private conference., as well as to
secondary schools at regional meelinW\ and
"College Nights"_
Tierney 8CC11U' to have had his bands (ull
throughout his 14 yean; at the University,
and (or all his trouble he still must prepare
detailed reports to the feaeral government
and the University officials as to the dfeetiveness
ofth_ programs.
