Craige explained. "Since
the University can use it, it
makes sense .for them to
buy it."
"It's an intriguing piece .
of architecture," he added.
The University, which
which plans to begin
renovations in the spring or
summer, ,expects the
building to be ready for use
by the fall semester, Pellino
said.

The University's new acquisition is the former John
Raymond Memorial Church, which is said to have the
highest tower in the city.
period, with no interest.
The settlement on the sale
of the building is tentatively
scheduled for June 1,
according to the Rev.
Harold C. Craige, pastor of
the church since 1970.
The church is being sold
because its membership has
shrunk to only a few people.
"The dwindling
congregation cannot afford
to keep the building,"

The University has
agreed to purchase the
former John Raymond
Memorial Church,
Universalist, at Madison
Avenue and Vine Street for
$125,000.
The main floor of the
structure, which contains
7,200 square feet of floor
~pace, will be used as a
studio-art facility for the
fine arts program,
according to Glenn Pellino,
vice president for planning.
"The facility is designed
to provide space for the
University's art program,"
Pellino explained.
The new facility will offer
an opportunity to art
students both in expression
and study, Pellino added.
In order to "open up" the
main floor as a studio space,
Pellino said some minor
renovations will be
necessary, including the
removal of stain glass
windows. The stained glass
will be replaced with clear
glass to provide the area
with natural lighting.
The basement will be used
for faculty offices and
classrooms for the program.
According to Pellino, the
sale agreement calls for the
University to pay $25,000
annually over a five year
