Commentary by the Artist and Others	Thomas W. Costello, great-grandson of the artist, comments: 'This is a simple, but beautifully lettered and decorated testimonial Engrossing... The large, initial block letter 'W' is done in purple and red watercolor, accenting the small purple flowers and green stems that comprise all four borders. All of the large lettering is done in black ink, and is outlined and drop-shaded.' Editors of the November 1924 Business Educator commented: 'This specimen of Engrossing by P. W. Costello, Scranton, Pa., shows how attractive border designs can be made from flowers, leaves, etc. Very beautiful and appropriate designs can be made for resolutions, memorials, etc., in this fashion, but where possible the design should agree or be associated with the wording or the occasion. Good ideas can be secured by studying postal cards and books. Of course, to get the most beautiful color, study the original flower or object itself. The flowers above were beautifully colored in purple and green. Unfortunately the delicate purple did not photograph, the flowers look white. The letter 'W' was also in two shades of purple with a reddish background. The purple flowers in the original stood out plainer and the green leaves and green stems did not show up quite so dark. Much of the beauty has therefore been lost in reproduction.'
