H. W. Nicholson, Esq.
Dr Sir
Your letters have been all recd and noticed with satisfaction. The matter of right of way filing bonds &c for the upper end can be postponed till Jan. Court in Susq. Co. Now then for the Hitchcock matter, I want you to see Maxwell again & get him to see Hitchcock & have him make a proposition in writing to me of the very best thing he will do as to price & terms of payment. Let him make the 1st payt say $3000 on giving possession & bal. divided in easy annual payments. It wd not do for me to get a verbal proposition from H. as if I shd accept he wd very likely fly before the paper cd be drawn, but if it was in writing giving me say one week to consider the matter then I cd act one way or the other. Perhaps Maxwell cd associate Conyngham [unclear] with him. You know better how they wd do than I but the proposition I want just as soon as possible & you must coolly set to work to bring it about. The reward shall be worth coming to the parties provided it shall result in a purchase. If we ever do anything in this matter, it is important that it be done soon! Please understand that I want the best proposition that can be got whether high or low & when recd I will decide. If the proposition cd embrace a
settlement of all the Stone Wall lain clearly, betterments &c without a recourse to appraisers as contemplated in the agreement, so much the better. Let me hear from you often.
I hope you will get a fave report from Davis & the Bank. I think that will yet work out right. When you know anything tell it to us.
The patent right deed was O.K.
Hastily Written

The [unclear] with Henry will return tomorrow. You can write by him! Who wrote that wonderful article in the Luz [Luzerne] Democrat touching the 'Imlord'? [unclear]
