R. Sprague, Esq, Treas
Dr Sir
Your highly esteemed favr of 5th inst was recd and noticed with feelings of pleasure & satisfaction. It makes us all happy to know that you enjoyed your visit here & your trip generally. But for the stage accident you wd have had nothing to mar the pleasure of your journey.
Mrs. S. returned shortly after you left. She wd have been pleased to have seen you & all the others. She was quite surprised to hear how finely Sarah & I got on housekeeping when we managed to live in her absence. I have made known your kind regards for her & your friendly regard working for the whole household. In fact they have pretty much all seen your very friendly letters & appreciate all contained therein. We all hope you may live to enjoy a great many such visits with us here. We hope you may never have cause to regret your first visit & what has grown out of it.
The Treas Statement is recd all right. Our bookkeeper Mr. [unclear] has left us. Mr. Sherrerd [unclear] our old bookkeeper is going to superintend the book now with Wm Henry as assistant. If any change or any of the present a/c shd require to be closed or differently arranged we will confer with you stating the reasons &c. We suppose the 4th

You have no doubt seen our President and Dodge since their return & have learned how the work progresses on Liggetts Gap R. Rd. We have until within a day or two very fine weather & have got on remarkably. We hope for some good weather yet before winter sets in. We have a little snow now (abt 1 inch) but the sun is trying to get out & if it succeeds it will soon disappear. Mr. Dodge & Phelps will inform you of the state of the Rail Rd Charters. The prospects are flattering for our co. to control everything leading out of the valley not yet built. Hoping to hear from you as often as you can find it convenient, and with our best regards for you and your family, I am truly your friend, Geo. W. Scranton
I have not forgotten George perhaps some thing may turn round that will be of service to him by & by. I will keep the matter before my mind.
