Geo D. Phelps E. Pres
Dear Sir
Mr. Dodge wrote me to meet him at Buffalo this evening. I had calculated to go until this morning. I now see that it out of order for me to leave home now our contractors are coming in & they all want to see & have help & understanding abt the commencement of the work & we have right of way to arrange immediately. Shantees are being commenced & ground will be broke probably today on No 12. Wheelbarrows & tools are being sent out along the line. I have my hands full just now. I don't hear anything yet of Malone & Co. Have they sent the contract to you executed yet? I have some fears that they may back out but hope not. Their end shd be underway.
Mr. Albright will go to B. today. He thinks the Erie boats cannot get along without our coal & he thinks Capt [unclear] will also use it but we have been meanly treated altogether at B. I expect Mr. Randolph here this evening & hope he will decide to go to B. If so we can have Mr. A. here at once then we shall be able to move our coal to better advantage.
In gt haste for the mail
I am truly yours
G. W. Scranton Genl Agt
